What Is Juicing?

Juicing describes the process of consuming extracted juice from fruits and vegetables. It is more common for fruits to be used for juicing because they typically have a better flavor when consumed in liquid form. The juice inside fruits and vegetables can be obtained by either squeezing the plants by hand or by using industrial equipment. Juicing can either be incorporated in a regular diet or it can be used to replace a regular diet in an attempt to detox the body or lose weight in a rapid manner.  Juicing became widely popular after the film Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead went viral in 2010.

Health Benefits Of Juicing

The main benefit of juicing comes from the nutritional content that comes from the fruits or vegetables that are used as part of the juicing process. Fruits and vegetables are a major part of any diet and most people find it much easier to consume them in liquid form rather than having to eat the solid form. Other than the potential increase in the consumption of fruits and vegetables there are very few other benefits of juicing. One of the most important nutrients found in plant foods is the fiber found within the plant’s skin. Juicing prevents the consumption of fiber and the internal digestion system suffers drastically. Many health professionals suggest consuming fruits and vegetables in a smoothie form because unlike with juicing the fiber can still be consumed in a smoothie form.

Juicing For Weight Loss

Modern health professionals agree that replacing a regular diet with a juicing diet in order to rapidly lose weight is completely unhealthy. Drinking juice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner will result with missing out on many vital and essential nutrients that the body needs in order to perform in a healthy manner. This drastic cut in calories can slow the metabolism significantly, resulting in fewer calories being burned while in a state of rest. Juicing also prevents the consumption of fiber since fiber is stored in the skin of fruits and vegetables. Fiber is extremely important when it comes to digestion and losing weight. Juicing by itself is considered very unhealthy, but when combined with a regular diet the practice of juicing can be very beneficial. The best weight loss results occur when the individual replaces 1/4th of their diet with juice. They still receive the nutrients that their body needs from their regular diet (meats, dairy products, carbohydrates) while cutting calories and increasing the consumption of the nutrients found in fruits and vegetables.
