What is a Carrot?

Carrots are a type of root vegetable that is typically bright orange, although there are varieties of carrots that are white, purple, or yellow. Carrot plants, which are variable biennial plants, grow up to 1-meter tall and are harvested for the taproot, which is the bright orange body of the carrot that grows beneath the surface of the soil. Native to Iran and Afghanistant, half the world's carrot population exists in China. 

Benefits of Carrots

Some of the most popular benefits include, but are not limited to, the following:

Healthy Vision: the high level of beta-carotene found in carrors helps combat macular degenration and senile cataracts. A recent study concluded that participants who consumed the most carrots in the study resulted in a 40% reduced risk of macular degenration compared those who consumed little to no carrots. Beta-carotene is also convereted into vitamin A within the liver before transforming into rhodopsin within the retina, which is a purple pigment that is required for night vision.

Reduced Risk of Cancer: Multiple studies have found that consuming carrots can reduce the risk of lung, breast, and colon cancers. Researchers didn't know why this was until recently when they discovered high levels of falcarinal and falcarindiol within carrots, which both have anticancer characterists. 

Combats Aging: the high level of beta-carotene in carrots helps improve vision but it is also able to slow down the aging of cells. Beta-carotene acts as an anti-oxidant that combats the regular damage that occurs to cells through regular metabolism. 

Skin Health: the vitamin and antioxidants in carrots help product the skin from sun damage stemming from its harmful UV rays. Vitamin A also helps maintain the proper amount of hydration within the skin, hair and nails while also preventing premature wrinkles.
